Dogs end up getting abandoned in really strange places sometimes. Fortunately, rescuers are always ready to go above and beyond to save homeless dogs. Elise and Tanai from Villalobos Rescue Center got notified about an abandoned dog in an unlikely area.
The two rescuers drove to a dumpster at New Orleans East. The location was under a bridge. It was a place that they have never gone before.
When they got to the location, they saw the dog. There was trash all over the place. The most shocking part of the rescue was discovering that the dog was wearing a collar.
Tania and Elise sat on the ground as a way to be non-threatening. They threw food out, and the dog approached them. However, if they make any sudden movements, the dog would move backward.
They sat there for a while, pondering what to do next. They brought out a crate and lured the female dog inside using food. It was a tense moment, but they managed to capture and bring her to the shelter.
The rescuers decided to name the dog Jacobi. A few days after being brought the shelter, Tania and Elise walked into Jacobi’s kennel to see her again. She was more friendly and accommodating to them.
Tania checked to see if Jacobi had a microchip. To their surprise, the dog indeed had one. They found out her name was Olive and contacted tried calling the owners.
When the owners answered the call, they told the rescuers that they have given away the dog. However, they could not provide any contact information to those people. When asked if they wanted the dog back, they said no.
Tania and Elise had a feeling something like that would happen. Owners of microchipped dogs not wanting them back is a common occurrence. Despite the sad news, at least the dog is safe where she is. They also decided to stick to Jacobi instead of Olive to signify a new life.
