When residents of a small town in Ohio saw a large dog walking around their neighborhood, they decided to call the cops to come and get him. Officers from the Kirtland Police Department immediately responded and retrieved the stray pooch.
But instead of taking the pit bull to the local shelter, the officers decided to look for the dog’s owner themselves. They took him back to their station, took some pictures, and posted them on their Facebook page.
As they don’t know his name, they called the stray John Doe Dog or JD.
Finding the owner
Word quickly got around to the town’s almost 7,000 residents. But no one came to claim ownership. For the next several days, the cops took turns taking care of the dog.
JD was scared and shy at first, but he quickly warmed up to the kind humans around him. He started coming out of his shell, and it was obvious that he was happy being where he was. In the meantime, the cops were falling for him as well.
Home sweet home
When it became apparent that they couldn’t find the dog’s owner, the officers made a decision and announced it on social media. And everyone was happy with what they read.
The police said that after getting permission from their chief and the mayor, the Kirtland Police Association was going to adopt JD themselves. The dog would be staying at the station permanently.
They further said that JD was a perfect fit in their environment, and he has brought a lot of happiness to their department.
It’s still unclear if the dog would undergo training as a member of their K9 unit or what particular duties are going to be given to him. What is sure is that he is going to make the working environment in the station very pleasant.
