Animal shelters carry the responsibility of rescuing and looking after animals that have been neglected, abused, and abandoned. While some are fortunate enough to have sufficient resources to sustain themselves, most of these shelters depend on donations to survive.
Companies and organizations come up with fun activities to get people to donate to these animal shelters. Sometimes, employees also come up with creative ways to call for funds and donations. Such is the case of Pris Austin, the director of Mexico-based animal shelter, Los Adoptables.
Birthday blessings
The shelter director came up with a brilliant idea to get dog food donations in 2019. She was nearing her birthday then, but instead of planning a celebration, she asked people to help her build a throne. Her request seemed simple, but there was a twist to it: she wanted a throne made out of huge bags of dog food.
The idea came about when she was buying dog food leas than a week before her birthday. Someone asked her what gift she wanted to receive on her special day, and all she could think of was dog food. Since she also wanted to involve the community, she answered the question with “a bag of dog food throne.”
She uploaded a call for donations that people found difficult to resist. It was a photo of her looking miserable while sitting on one bag of dog food. While some thought her picture was both adorable and hilarious, a lot of people were quick to send her bags of dog food. She eventually turned all the donations into a giant throne.
Wish granted
The shelter received over 41 bags of dog food donations on Austin’s birthday. The adorable pups at Los Adoptables also had big smiles on their faces when they saw the throne made out of bags of dog food!
