A little girl in North Carolina was about to celebrate her third birthday, but she could do that without having any visitors or friends around to celebrate with her. That’s why her parents thought of something to make it special.
Elizabeth Guthrie, the little girl, loved dogs a lot, and so her parents, Mary and Mike, thought of something amazing. The parents observed how their daughter was close to the dogs in the neighborhood.
Knowing that the neighbors still walked their dogs daily, the parents decided that it would be great to organize the neighbors and have a dog parade right in front of their own home for Elizabeth’s birthday. To inform their neighbors, the parents made a sign informing the neighbors of the date and the time of the celebration and the dog parade which they posted in front of their house.
Aside from the sign, the Guthries also made fliers and posted them in public places so people would know about their plan. Mary put some of them in mailboxes as well. The couple was hoping that many would join in, and they weren’t disappointed.
According to Mike, they are close to some of the neighbors who had dogs, and they knew that they would be out to walk their dogs. Having just a number of neighbors with their dogs would be okay for them. They would just have to walk past their home on Elizabeth’s birthday.
On the day of the birthday, the entire family were really touched by the huge amount of people and dogs who went out of their way and joined in on the dog parade. Some owners even dressed up their dogs as there were dogs who came in tutus and some with party hats. There were 41 owners and 17 dogs who joined to help Elizabeth celebrate her birthday.
