Thanks to a group of devoted rescuers, a Pit Bull who spent over a year living alone in an orchard in rural California is now safe.
Mama spent months roaming the farmlands outside of Ducor before her rescue. She was lucky that she got many guardian angels watching over her.
Mama was brought to Dany Spanks’ attention at Safefurr Place Rescue after she endured a year living independently. Spanks set out right away to earn Mama’s trust. However, he knows that it will not be an easy task.
Spanks mission to befriend Mama, the Pitbull
The dog made her first appearance on social media in April of this year. Mama slept under solar panels at night and stood by the side of the road throughout the day, patiently waiting for food from travelers. However, she was fearful of strangers and would flee if they approached her.
Spanks did not become aware of Mama’s plight until late December 2019 and set out to rescue her. Every day, he left food in the same spot for her, and it started to pay off when Mama began to follow him for food. Until such time that it became a regular habit.
Mama will wait for Danny at the exact location and time every day. She would chase him around the house and happily eat the hot dogs he fed her. Though their relationship shows some progress, the Pitbull still won’t allow Danny to pet her.
After three months of daily visits, the rescue obtained a 14-month-old video that let them learn more about Mama. They found her abandoned in January 2019 at a gas station five miles from Safefurr Place Rescue’s orchard. Fortunately, they successfully rescued the dog on March 27, 2020, after 15 months of living alone.
Danny took Mama in and currently resides in his house, where she would begin to adapt to her new life.
