Even animals with disabilities can prove that they can achieve great heights! A French Bulldog in a wheelchair made it to the 2019 Walkin’ Pets calendar!
Kardi is an 8-year-old French Bulldog who was rescued at a puppy mill when she was two years old. After she had been saved, it was discovered that she was suffering from Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). IVDD is a condition that causes deterioration of the cushioning pads between the bones in a dog’s spine.
As a result, Kardi became paralyzed. She cannot move the hind part of her body.
However, Kardi’s disability didn’t stop her from being a playful and energetic animal! She lives her life to the fullest.
Kardi’s owner, Kelsey Glen, works as a veterinary technician at The Animal Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas. She describes Kardi as the sweetest, most laid-back dog. Kelsey’s coworkers helped her to raise funds for Kardi’s wheelchair. They bought a wheelchair from Walkin’ Pets.
Walkin’ Pets is an e-commerce company that specializes in taking care of dogs with special needs and disabilities. It has various products to aid dogs with their mobility. Every year, Walkin’ Pets hold a contest to feature dogs with disabilities in their calendar. The competition aims to spread awareness and raise money for the Handicapped Pets Foundation.
Kelsey was so delighted to know that Kardi made it to the 2018 calendar together with 11 other dogs with disabilities!
Apart from being a model, Kardi is also busy being a certified therapy dog. She regularly visits nursing homes and schools. Kardi helps patients with Alzheimer’s disease residing in nursing homes.
Kelsey has another dog with a disability named Bonnie Rose. She shares her adventures with Bonnie Rose and Kardi on Instagram.
Congratulations, Kardi, on becoming a calendar model! We will look forward to seeing your future modeling gigs!
