When animal control officers from Louisiana received a call about a pup found inside a bathroom at Destrehan’s Splash Park, they responded immediately. The dog was an elderly Black Labrador, who the officers initially thought to be pregnant. A closer look at the dog revealed that she was just overweight.
The dog’s name is Ladybird, and with her was a vague note that led to why she got abandoned. It turned out that the dog’s previous family was in a rough time, forcing them to leave the dog. Based on the note, the dog’s previous owners request whoever sees the dog to take good care of her.
Apart from this, also written in the note is a reminder to feed and give Ladybird water to drink. With this, the officers struck down the idea that the dog experienced cruelty from her previous owner. After the rescue, Ladybird was brought to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter, where she will stay temporarily.
One of the dog’s owner went back to the public bathroom the next day. Upon learning that Ladybird is no longer there, he called animal control. The owner received a word from the animal control about the dog’s whereabouts, so the man went there.
The man then spoke with Dr. Jena Troxler, the resident veterinarian of the animal shelter. According to Dr. Jena, the man explained that he still wants to take the dog with him. However, he needs a few days to fix a problem to get back on his feet.
Dr. Jena agreed that the shelter would foster the dog until the man comes back. The veterinarian felt the sincerity of the man, so she gave him the benefit of the doubt. Before the man left, he went to see Ladybird and gave the dog a warm hug.
