It is always a shelter volunteer’s dream to see empty kennels and cages. They wish nothing but to send off every last one of the shelter animals who all deserve to be adopted by loving families. One animal shelter in Hawaii recently realized this dream! As part of their happy celebration, they held a special send-off for the last animal adopted from their center.
The Honolulu-based Hawaiian Humane Society had one goal – to clear out all its centers and find the perfect homes for all their rescue animals. Just this Thursday, the only remaining dog in one of their centers was finally adopted! All the volunteers are ecstatic to know that no animal got left behind.
With this, volunteers of the Hawaiian Humane Society thought of a way to celebrate the success of reaching the non-profit organization’s goal. They thought, what better way to bid goodbye to the last adopted dog but through a special send-off? The bittersweet farewell was all caught on film!
Through a video posted on the Hawaiian Humane Society’s official Facebook page, the small brown dog Beauty is seen carried by her new owner, Jan. As they walk down a corridor, the volunteers lined up to either side and cheered on, all happy about the last shelter adoption.
The volunteers, who are all fond of the sweet Beauty, bid the pup farewell. They did so by petting her, giving her kisses, and cheering her on as she starts a new life with her new, loving family. Surely, Beauty had no clue about what’s happening at that moment – but she seemed to be loving every bit of attention!
In the hopes of getting all the shelter animals adopted, the Hawaiian Humane Society waived the adoption fees on all the cats and dogs within four days. Many families responded to the campaign and were quick to adopt an animal that they can love and nurture. The volunteers are happy to know that for the first time in a long while, all their rescue animals are now safe and secured in different homes.
