Axel was born with a rare condition that left his body looking like a flat pancake. Axel needed to crawl on his belly to get around because his legs were deformed.
One rescue group heard that Axel’s breeder was selling him, so they rushed to get him out. However, Axel’s rescuers could not keep him, and he was at risk of being euthanized because of his condition.

Fortunately, Aryn Faile was browsing the internet when she came across Axel’s photo. Aryn shared that Axel needed a foster family, and she immediately applied to be Axel’s temporary mama.
Aryn shared that Axel looked so excited to be part of a family. Aryn recalled how memorable it was to see Axel’s tail wagging the entire time he was crawling towards her.
Aryn said that Axel was so friendly and looked so happy to have a home. Aryn shared that after being with Axel for 48 hours, she and her husband knew that Axel was meant to be theirs forever.
Aryn felt an instant connection with Axel, and she could not deny how great his personality was. Aryn decided to adopt Axel for good, and the shelter quickly agreed.
Aryn and her husband eventually realized that Axel’s condition was far worse than they initially thought. Aryn saw that Axel’s legs were so deformed that she did not know how to hold him because she was afraid that she might hurt him.
Aryn wanted to help Axel, so they did a lot of stretching and taught him how to climb over obstacles to get him used to challenges. Aryn saw a little progress, so she decided to spice things up by adding another foster dog into the picture.
Aryn thought that she would only foster Xander, but she ended up adopting him because of how he helped Axel get better. Aryn shared that they eventually had Axel’s legs operated on, and he has been improving ever since his surgery.
