Twenty-seven-year-old Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman recently asked for the public’s help after Mylo, her dog, went missing during this year’s Independence Day celebration. The retired American gymnast took to Instagram to share the news after her beloved pet ran away when he got frightened by the sound of fireworks ahead of this year’s July 4 weekend.
In her post, she appealed to all of her followers living in the seaport/Boston area to notify her of any sightings they might have of the pup. Mylo had a tag and a leash on him, and she would be very grateful for any information to help her find him. Along with a photo of her pet, she also cited tips on how he could be helped safely without scaring him further.
The two-time Olympian said she was appreciative of the help and support she has received so far but asked her followers not to actively search for him because he might be traumatized. The Missing Dogs Massachusetts informed Raisman that anyone looking for him should prevent yelling his name or running around during the search. This was because scared canines tend to make bad decisions if they feel pressured, and she said it was the last thing they wanted to happen.
Raisman appealed to anyone who might have seen Mylo contact her directly rather than post his location online and emphasized that she had tremendous gratitude to everyone who has helped her so far. Later that day, Chris Evans – aka Captain America himself – reposted Raisman’s announcement through his Instagram stories in an attempt to help out with the search for Mylo.
Mylo was first introduced to the world by his famous athlete fur-parent in October 2020. Raisman announced this through Twitter, saying he was a rescue dog from the Heart of RI shelter. According to her, the little darling was born on July 16, 2020 – and she felt lucky and excited about being his new fur-mom. She even added that she couldn’t wait to get to know him.
And in a happier turn of events, CBS Boston recently released a report about Carla Duran and Gayle Cataldo. These two dog lovers were instrumental in finding Mylo, hiding near a construction site amidst tall grasses. Cataldo jumped over the fence so she could get him as soon as their own dog spotted the missing canine.
Interestingly enough, neither Duran nor Cataldo were aware of Raisman’s widely shared ‘Find Mylo’ campaign when they found him. According to a report made by CBS Boston, they didn’t even realize it was her dog until she personally came to retrieve him.
And if the photos are proof enough, it was a reunion like no other!
