Shey is a miniature poodle that was already 14 years old when he was surrendered to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. His family loved him but certain circumstances made them move away from their former home.
Because the senior pooch was already blind and deaf at that point, and they were having some difficulties in life, they couldn’t take him with them. The only choice that the struggling family had left was to give him up and wish that someone would love the old pooch and give him a good life.
That someone is a good-hearted boy named Tristan.
Loves sitting on laps
The young boy and his mom went to the shelter to look for a dog that Tristan could take care of and sit on his lap. He just wanted a pooch that he could hold and love. They went from kennel to kennel, but it seemed that they couldn’t find the right pup for him.
But when they met Shey, Tristan got excited. Although he was already at a very advanced age, and he had disabilities, he had one special edge. He loved sitting on laps. He was the perfect choice.
The shelter staff took the pooch and the boy to their hug room where they can get more acquainted. They placed Shey into Tristan’s lap, and he settled right in. The bit had the biggest smile in the world. They knew right then that Shey was going home with them.
Even when they told Tristan the many things that he needed to do to care for the old pooch, he didn’t mind. He listed everything down, he understood the challenges of adopting a special needs dog, and he accepted it.
Inseparable
According to his parents, ever since they adopted Shey, he and his Tristan has become inseparable. The two even sleep together at night. They also spend many hours together just snuggling in their favorite chair.
Although Shey doesn’t have the energy or the abilities to actively play, it doesn’t matter to the young kid. He is fully content loving the dog for what he really is.
